Birthnet of the Finger Lakes invites all women to
visit the BOLD Red Tent

• a private place to discuss pregnancy and birth
• a protected place to share our stories and be heard by other women

The red tent is based on the ideas presented in Anita Diamant's novel The Red Tent. In this historical fiction, women went to stay in a red tent during childbirth and menses, a place where women learned about childbirth, about womanhood, about motherhood. Class boundaries were removed once a woman walked into the red tent. It was a place where all women supported each other--there was no judgement, there was no criticism.

There was just respect, support, understanding, and learning.

The BOLD Rent Tent in Ithaca hopes to recreate this safe place for women.

BOLD's mission

The tent space will be available throughout the Birth Choices event, and we invite you to come share your birth stories with the women of your community.

Please be aware that you will be asked if you would like to contribute your story to the BOLD Library of Birth Truths. This is optional, but a very important part of building a true image of birth around the world. We will have video cameras available in the tent for those who do opt to contribute to the Library of Birth Truths.
